STōK is the cold brew most Americans actually drink, which makes it the benchmark whether the coffee snobs like it or not. The 48-ounce multi-serve bottle is the category's value anchor: two-ingredient label, real caffeine, and a price per ounce that makes café cold brew look like a prank.

The pour

Deep brown-black, medium body, minimal aroma out of the fridge — typical for a pasteurized multi-serve. No sediment, no separation, pours identically from the first glass to the last, which is exactly what a shelf product should do and homemade often doesn't.

The taste

Blind, chilled to 38°F, tasted black: opens with cocoa and roasted nut, reads properly strong, and finishes shorter than the top of the category with a faint ashy, dark-roast edge that becomes more noticeable as the glass warms. Smoothness is genuinely good for the price tier — there's none of the harsh bite that haunts cheaper bottles — but next to the category leaders the difference in finish is where the gap lives. With milk, most of the criticism disappears, which is likely how most of these bottles are consumed.

The value math

At the price we paid, this works out to roughly twelve cents per ounce — about a quarter the cost of a café pour and meaningfully cheaper per ounce than nearly every premium bottle we've lined up against it. If your consumption is daily and habitual, that difference compounds into real money over a year. Value is this bottle's entire argument, and it's a strong one.

Verdict

A Very good score built on consistency, availability, and price rather than beauty. It loses points on finish and on our "would buy again" test — not because we wouldn't, but because at this price gap the honest answer is "for weekdays." If you drink cold brew black and slowly, spend up for La Colombe; if you go through a bottle a week with milk in the glass, buy this and stop feeling weird about it.
