Rokumei Coffee
The second perfect score on this site — a Nara roaster's cold brew in Shibuya that drinks like nothing else in the category. Fruity in a way that shouldn't be legal.
Rokumei is a Nara institution — roasting since 1974, run by a Japan Coffee Roasting Championship winner — and in March 2026 they planted a glass-fronted bar on the second floor of Shibuya Scramble Square, two floors above the busiest crossing on Earth. Order the cold brew and the location stops mattering entirely.
The brew
This is the most distinctive glass on this site, full stop. Super fruity and super smooth — but "fruity" undersells how far it goes. The honest tasting note is Fruity Pebbles: a candy-bright, multi-fruit brightness that no other cold brew I've scored has come anywhere near, carried on a texture with zero rough edges. It doesn't taste like a darker, colder version of hot coffee — it tastes like its own drink, designed on purpose by people who roast at a championship level.
Falò's 10 was perfection of the classic form. This 10 is something the classic form didn't know it could do.
The space
A bright, modern bar with bottled brews lining the counter and the Scramble Square crowd flowing past the glass. It's a station-adjacent format — more precision counter than linger-all-day kissaten — and the cup quality makes the format irrelevant.
The story
A fifty-year-old Nara roastery whose founder won the national roasting championship, now translating that pedigree for Tokyo's densest intersection. The bottles on the counter are the tell: this is a shop that thinks about coffee the way a brewery thinks about beer.
Verdict: 10/10 — the second perfect score ever awarded here, and the single most original cold brew on the map. If you're anywhere near Shibuya, go.
