Nonstop Coffee Stand & Roastery

A backstreet Kanazawa roastery pouring an exceptionally smooth cold brew from beans roasted in-house. The only thing between it and a cleaner finish: the paper cup.

Nonstop Coffee is easy to miss from the street: a deep-green storefront, a low wooden entrance, and almost nothing announcing that some very serious coffee is being made inside. Duck through the door and the room opens upward into exposed beams, pale wood, and a busy counter. It feels less like a café polished for tourists and more like a working roastery that happens to pour drinks.

The brew

The cold brew was exceptionally smooth. No harsh bitterness, no sour bite on the finish—just a clean, easy cup that let the quality of the beans come through. They roast their own here, and it shows.

Nonstop Coffee cold brew served in the shop's branded paper cup and lid

That made the serving vessel the one frustrating part. The paper cup and lid may be the environmentally thoughtful choice, but both become part of the drink: the paper changes the aroma, the lid changes the way the coffee reaches you, and some of that clean flavor gets lost on the way.

Good for the environment. Bad for the purity of taste.

The fix is simple: take the lid off immediately or bring your own cup. The coffee underneath is absolutely worth it.

The space

The shop is compact, warm, and full of character. The raw ceiling and visible working bar give it more personality than the polished cafés designed around photo opportunities. It gets busy, and this is not the place to claim a table for three hours. Come for the coffee, talk beans if the counter slows down, and keep moving through Higashiyama.

The story

Nonstop calls itself a little piece of Melbourne in Kanazawa. The owner trained in Melbourne, brought that daily coffee culture home, and built a shop around beans roasted on-site rather than a long food menu. Hidden just beyond the Higashi Chaya crowds, it feels like a place coffee people seek out on purpose.

Verdict: 9/10 — smooth, serious cold brew from people who control the coffee all the way from roast to cup. Bring your own tumbler or lose the lid; these beans are too good to taste through the packaging.
